Special
education

Lonneke van Leth Dans invests in all types of education so that all students can discover and experience dance. In recent years, we have gained extensive experience in special education. We now collaborate with many special primary and secondary special education schools, where students follow a comprehensive dance curriculum that we created specifically for them. The success of our offerings lies in the enthusiasm of our dance instructors and strong collaboration with the schools and teachers.

Emotions, amazement, discovering and understanding together. In primary education we offer students a lot of space to do and experience movements themselves.

The emotions and dancing of a story are central. This way, students experience modern dance instead of just watching it.

With our school performances and side programming, we aim to appeal to children aged 4-6 years with their imagination, emotions and senses. They learn to discover the world inside and outside themselves through dance and are given the opportunity to experience dance as a form of expression and art.

Learning pathways

Together with schools and partners, we develop continuous learning pathways that last multiple school years. Longer programs work well in special education. This allows our dance teachers to build a strong bond with the students. Customization, recognition, and connection are of great importance. There are many possibilities. Below, we provide a few examples.

The Hague Shuffle special

We adapted De Haagse Shuffle for special education. In this program, the focus is on the joy of dance and gaining more self-insight. Students discover the basics of dance and develop their sense of music. They also experience how to use space. This curriculum lasts three years, with twelve lessons in each year.

We developed various lesson series for the PH Schreuderschool in The Hague. During project weeks, for example, we work on dance styles from different countries, interpreting paintings around a single theme in dance, or dancing a book. These learning tracks often consist of six lessons.

For the Pleysier College in The Hague, we developed a three-year curriculum for the second and third years. Dance and visual arts complement each other in this track. For example, the students learn various dance styles and create stop-motion animations of dancing figures. The results are remarkable and generate even more enthusiasm among our teachers.

Workshops

Workshops

In special education, we primarily use dance workshops to better develop students' movement, sensory processing, and emotional expression. We also work on the goals of citizenship education. We are very flexible during the lessons. At any given moment, in every group, and even with each individual student, we assess which explanation and method works best. This ensures that every student has a positive experience.
